Max Verstappen takes the chequered flag at the FORMULA 1 JAPANESE GRAND PRIX 2022 to become the 2022 FIA Formula 1® Drivers' World Champion.
Verstappen started the race in pole and in prime position to secure his second Drivers' World Championship. Two laps into the race, the red flag was issued due to a rainstorm with Verstappen in the lead. A lengthy delay followed but the Dutchman kept his nerve and benefitted from an excellent tyre strategy. He crossed the finish line more than 27 seconds clear of Perez in P2. A time penalty issued to Leclerc after the race confirmed another world title for Verstappen.
